Fall Fishing in Venice, Louisiana: Big Tuna, Trout & Redfish
Fall is almost here in Venice, Louisiana, and that means some of our favorite fishing of the year is right around the corner.
As the days get shorter and temperatures begin to ease, conditions start changing both offshore in the Gulf and throughout the Mississippi River Delta. For anglers, that means opportunities to experience two very different sides of Venice fishing in the same season.
Offshore, we’re getting ready for big yellowfin tuna. Inshore, trout and redfish action is setting up throughout the marsh, river and passes.
Whether you’re planning a serious offshore adventure or looking for a fast-paced day of Louisiana inshore fishing, fall is an incredible time to make the trip to Tuna Town.

Why Fall Is a Great Time to Fish Venice, Louisiana
Venice sits at the mouth of the Mississippi River, giving anglers access to an incredibly diverse fishery.
Head offshore and you’re quickly entering productive Gulf waters known for yellowfin tuna and other pelagic species. Stay closer to shore and you’re surrounded by the marshes, passes and river systems that make South Louisiana famous for redfish and speckled trout.
Fall brings changing conditions to both fisheries.
Cooler temperatures, seasonal bait movement and changing water conditions can create exciting opportunities throughout the region.
This year, low Mississippi River levels continue to help set the stage for both offshore and inshore fishing as we head into fall.
And we’re ready for it.
Offshore: BIG Yellowfin Tuna Season Is Coming
Venice didn’t earn the nickname Tuna Town by accident.
Yellowfin tuna are one of our specialties at Intensity Offshore Outfitters, and fall brings some of the most anticipated offshore fishing of the year.
As conditions change, we’re looking forward to opportunities for big yellowfin tuna off the Louisiana coast.
These aren’t fish you simply reel to the boat.
A big yellowfin is a battle.
Once the line comes tight and the drag starts screaming, you’ll understand why anglers travel from across the country to experience tuna fishing in Venice.
It’s strength, patience and adrenaline all rolled into one fight — and finally seeing that yellowfin come into view beside the boat makes every second worth it.
For anglers who have been waiting to put a serious tuna in the box, fall is the time to start watching Venice closely.
What Makes Venice Such a Productive Offshore Fishery?
Location has a lot to do with it.
Venice sits approximately 60 miles south of New Orleans near the mouth of the Mississippi River. Not far beyond the mouth of the river, the continental shelf drops into the deep waters of the Mississippi Canyon.
That access to deep Gulf water helps create habitat for a variety of offshore species.
While yellowfin tuna are our specialty, depending on the season and conditions, offshore trips from Venice can also encounter species including mahi mahi, wahoo, swordfish, marlin, amberjack, grouper and snapper.
That’s part of the fun of offshore fishing here.
You leave the dock knowing what you’re targeting — but you never know exactly what the Gulf is going to give you that day.

Inshore: Trout & Redfish Are Getting Ready, Too
Fall isn’t only about tuna.
While offshore anglers are thinking about big yellowfin, the changing season also brings some exciting opportunities closer to shore.
Speckled trout and redfish are two of the stars of fall inshore fishing in Venice.
As temperatures begin to cool, trout and redfish feed throughout the marshes, Mississippi River, passes and surrounding coastal waters.
Shrimp and other baitfish moving throughout the system give these fish plenty to chase — and give our anglers plenty of action to look forward to.
For someone who doesn’t necessarily want a full offshore tuna adventure, an inshore fishing charter in Venice, LA provides an entirely different way to experience South Louisiana.
And it can get fast-paced in a hurry.
Offshore or Inshore: Which Venice Fishing Trip Is Right for You?
That’s one of the best things about fishing Venice: you have options.
If your goal is to experience the power of a big yellowfin tuna and spend a full day offshore in the Gulf, our Offshore/Tuna Trip is the way to go.
These trips average approximately 10–12 hours and are designed for up to six anglers. Our experienced captain and dedicated mate provide the tackle, bait and equipment needed for the day.
If you’d rather fish the marshes, river and passes for species like redfish and speckled trout, our Inshore Trip provides approximately six hours on the water for groups of up to four people.
Either way, you’re fishing one of the most unique destinations in Louisiana.
